The villages — read this first

Capri is tiny (10 km² total) but socially split between three poles. Pick the village first; the property is the second decision.

• Capri Town — the social centre around La Piazzetta, with the funicular from Marina Grande, the Via Camerelle shopping spine, and the path to the Faraglioni. Highest hotel density. Default for first-visit stays where the Piazzetta scene is the trip.
• Anacapri — the upper village (300m), quieter, with the Phoenician Steps and the chairlift to Mount Solaro. Cooler in summer, far less tourist density. Strong for slow stays.
• Marina Grande — the ferry port and the residential coast. Smaller hotel inventory but properties here are calmer and have direct sea access. Strong for travelers who want the ferry-friendly arrival.

Place Capri if 22-room Marina Grande quiet appeals over Piazzetta proximity. Capri Tiberio Palace if 1950s Dolce Vita design and Piazzetta walkability matter. Hotel Caesar Augustus if the most-panoramic clifftop view on the island is the brief.

Slow-travel notes for Capri

Capri is reached only by ferry — Naples (Mergellina or Beverello, 45 min), Sorrento (25 min), or Positano (30 min seasonal). Cars are prohibited in Capri Town and most of Anacapri; the funicular connects Marina Grande to the Piazzetta in 4 minutes for €2. The Piazzetta becomes severely crowded between 10am and 4pm in peak season as day-trippers arrive on the ferries — slow-travel stays gain back the island in early morning and after 4pm when the day boats depart. Peak season runs late May through September; the practical slow-travel windows are early May, late September, and October. Many marquee properties close November through Easter.
