Port de Provenance is a small research desk. We collect as little about you as we can get away with and still run the business. This page explains exactly what that means.
When you subscribe to our newsletter or download the pre-departure checklist, you give us your email address. That email is stored by our newsletter platform, Beehiiv, which has its own privacy policy. We can see your email, the date you subscribed, and aggregate engagement metrics (whether you open or click). We do not see your IP address, location, or browsing history.
We use your email only to send the Sunday Edition newsletter and the lead-magnet content you requested. We will never send you sponsored mail on behalf of a third party.
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare logs basic request information — IP address, timestamp, browser user-agent — for security and abuse-prevention purposes. We do not have direct access to those logs, do not retain them ourselves, and do not use them for marketing.
When you click an affiliate link on this site (see our Affiliate Disclosure), the destination merchant — Booking.com, Wise, SafetyWing, etc. — sets a cookie in your browser to track whether you complete a purchase or signup. That cookie belongs to the merchant, follows their privacy policy, and typically expires within 30–90 days. We do not see the contents of that cookie. We only see, in aggregate, that some referrals from our site led to commissions.
Some links to this site are shared via Pinterest with UTM tracking parameters (e.g., ?utm_source=pinterest). These help us understand which boards drive traffic. They do not personally identify you.
The cookies that may be set when you visit this site are limited to:
You can clear or block any of these cookies in your browser settings without breaking the site (you may break the newsletter signup form if you block Beehiiv).
Wherever you live, you have the right to:
If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom, GDPR additionally entitles you to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. If you are in California, the CCPA additionally entitles you to opt out of any "sale" of your personal information — we do not sell personal information, but the right exists.
This site is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect data from anyone in those age brackets. If you believe a child has submitted information, email us and we will delete it.
If we change anything substantive here, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of the page and, for material changes, send a one-line notice in the next Sunday Edition. We do not maintain a separate change-log because this page is short enough to read in full each time.
